Participating students and their teacher/sponsor are asked to create a one-minute video Public Service Announcement conveying the message to “stay in school.” The videos will be reviewed and if selected will be posted on WCTE’s YouTube Channel. A panel of judges selected by WCTE will determine the contest winners.

What is a Public Service Announcement (PSA)? Public service announcements are a community service provided by WCTE-TV and PBS stations.  PSA’s run in the form of pre-recorded announcements, community calendar announcements, and live read scripts. They are recorded for issues and events that help and or provide a social service and or educational information.

Reaching for the Sky is the sixth episode in WCTE’s original documentary series Growing Education as a part of American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen, a public media initiative supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to help local communities across America address the dropout crisis. Track visits the challenges and opportunities for have not earned their high school diploma, or adults who have their high school diploma  but dropped out of college before earning their degree.  The segment focuses on how  we re-engage adult students in the Upper Cumberland, including such organizations as  Putnam County's Adult Learning Center and the newly established Upper Cumberland  Tennessee Reconnect Center, which provides support and advice for adults who began  their post-secondary education but did not finish. This show will look at both services and other opportunities for adult learners to ‘get back on track’ with their education.
