WCTE's Get Ready To Learn Holiday Edition with Capshaw Students Claire & Olivia

Posted by Kate Spears on

Join Cindy Putman on WCTE’s Get Ready To Learn radio show as she shares the airwaves with two very special Putnam County School System students, Claire and Olivia from Capshaw Elementary. On this week’s show, they share all the great things happening at their school and during the LEAPs afterschool program. Christmas brings joy and delight when seen through the eyes of children.

Claire and Olivia read one of their favorite books about snow and they remind all of us the sheer disappointment when snow is in the school forecast and does not arrive.

WCTE and Putnam County School System Extended Learning LEAPs program collaborated to conduct an ODD SQUAD and Ruff Ruffman Sensational Science Camp that Claire and Olivia attended. They are still talking about all the fun they had as they explored different Science concepts about mixtures, structures, force and gravity, and materials.

After the time in the radio studio at Zimmer Broadcasting, both girls commented that they would love to have their very own radio shows someday. Excitement was in the air because they were headed to Dairy Queen to have a Peppermint Chocolate Blizzard and a D.Q. Hamburger at the end of the broadcast.

Enjoying holidays treats together is just one way families and friends can make special memories this holiday season. Another is to make up a batch of hot cocoa and bundle up for a drive around town looking at holiday lights. Here’s a great round-up of light displays worth a trip through these Cookeville neighborhoods.

Other ways to ring in the holiday season is by watching favorite classic programs and films together with the ones you love. WCTE has a host of Holiday specials in their December lineup and the schedule is found at http://www.wcte.org/home/.

This includes many special holiday shows for kids:

PEG + CAT + HOLIDAYS - Peg and Cat help Santa make, wrap and deliver presents to all the world's children; Albert Einstein invites Peg and Cat over on Hanukkah; and Peg and Cat coach skiing penguins.

WILD KRATTS: A CREATURE CHRISTMAS - The Kratts put their Christmas celebration on hold when they learn that some of their favorite creatures have gone missing.

ODD SQUAD - Reindeer Games: Olive and Otto help Santa find his missing reindeer; and Oscar helps Ms O remove herself from Santa's naughty list.

SPLASH AND BUBBLES - Whitebeard; Coral Days: Ripple wants to stay up late to see Whitebeard, a mysterious creature that lives in the North Pole, make his annual appearance in Reeftown; and Reeftown celebrates Coral Day, which is new to Splash.

And don’t forget to tune in on Christmas Day to watch The 51st annual Putnam County Christmas Parade!

Tune in each Saturday morning at 9:30 for the WCTE Get Ready To Learn Radio Show, with host Cindy Putman on Zimmer Broadcasting's The HUB 107.7 FM and 1400 AM
