Community Collaboratives for Early Learning Media Meet With WCTE Leadership
Wednesday, August 24, the Community Collaboratives for Early Learning Media (CC-ELM) had their first meeting with WCTE leadership. During this meeting, WCTE donated six iPads to the Putnam County Library to add to their Mobile Learning Lab, Donated by WCTE in 2014.
“We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to offer the Ready ToLearn Mobile Lab to our patrons,” says Stacie Netherton, Putnam County Library Director. “Our children’s library staff feltthat the iPads with the PBS apps offered a great educationalexperience to families who otherwise may not have access to similartechnology or resources.” These iPads feature PBS educational app, Scratch Jr. which teaches literacy and problem solving through a fun coding game. The app can be downloaded for free on android and tablet devices by going to http://pbskids.org/apps/pbs-kids-scratchjr.html.
Scratch Jr. will also be featured at two four-day Family Creative Learning Workshops hosted by CC-ELM members. One will be held at Jere Whitson Elementary each day at 4 p.m. September 8, 13, 14 and 15. The other will be held at the Putnam County Library each day from 10 to 11:30 a.m. September 7, 8, 14 and 15. Both events are intended for children 5 to 8 and will include free fun and food for families and kids.
The CC-ELM concluded their meeting by talking about their collaboration with this year’s Stations of Imagination at Putnam County’s Fall FunFest, Friday, September 9 from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, September 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
