Run WCTE’s Haunted Half Marathon
WCTE’s 8th Annual Haunted Half Marathon will be Saturday, October 15 at 7 a.m. Registration begins at 5:30 a.m. Early packet pick-up will be held October 14 at Cookeville’s West Town Centre located at 25 West Broad St, next to Foothills Running Company from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
This will be the last race in this year’s Run the Upper Cumberland Medal Series. Runners who complete the Haunted Half will receive a “Haunted Themed” finisher’s medal, and can qualify for prize money. In addition, everyone who completed the Run the Cumberland race series will receive their Run the Cumberland Medal. This is a certified course that is chip-timed by Tennessee Race Timing. Last year the race brought in just under 400 runners from all over Middle Tennessee and the Southeast.
“The Haunted Half has been a great race for this area,” says Tracy Epps, Haunted Half Race Coordinator. “Not only is it the only half marathon but it’s also affordable and a great race for beginners since it has a relay team option. For some people running a half marathon is a life goal. So having the Haunted Half means a lot to many people in the community.”
Since this is a Halloween event runners are encouraged to dress up. There will be an award for the best costume. All runners must be 14 years old older to participate in the half marathon.
All runners who are 21 and up can receive a discounted VIP ticket for the Blues and Brews Craft Beer Festival that will occur the same day in Dogwood Park from noon until 5 p.m. Another runner’s benefit will be a runners-only tent that will feature race highlights.
All proceeds from this race will go to support WCTE. Race sponsors this year include Blood Assurance and American Bank and Trust. For more information or to register go to runhauntedhalf.com and be sure to follow WCTE’s Facebook page for updates on events and programming.
