WCTE Upper Cumberland PBS is participating in The Big Payback, a region-wide, 24-hour online giving event created to help Middle Tennessee nonprofits raise funds vital to continue their work, which directly improves the community around them. This is the first year that WCTE is taking part in the event.

The charitable event, presented by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, will begin at midnight on Tuesday, May 3 and run for 24 hours. Once the clock starts, anyone can visit TheBigPayback.org or wcte.org/BigPayback and make donations to WCTE and other participating nonprofits that serve the 40 counties of Middle Tennessee.  This year, WCTE is partnering with the Cookeville Chick-fil-A for an on-site giving event on Tuesday, May 3.  From 3:00-7:00 p.m., WCTE will be at Chick-fil-A with laptops to make online donations as easy as possible.  Donors who make a minimum $10 donation will receive a digital offer card for a FREE Chick-fil-A menu item.

Donations to WCTE during The Big Payback will go directly to support Education & Community Engagement through public media in the Upper Cumberland.  “WCTE's initiatives in education and outreach provide quality services such as PBS and PBS Kids programming, local educational content, and learning workshops throughout Tennessee’s Upper Cumberland region.  Our continual work of bringing awareness to the needs of our community through public media is made possible through station supporters.  We hope The Big Payback will garner new support for our efforts,” said Hannah Rawiszer, Director of Education & Community Engagement at WCTE.

Gifts from the public during The Big Payback will be boosted with funds from sponsors of the event, which will provide opportunities for WCTE to vie for financial incentives and additional prizes. The online leaderboard at TheBigPayback.org will track donations in real time.

“Nonprofits do important, life-changing work every day across Middle Tennessee,” said Ellen Lehman, president of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. “The Big Payback has become an exciting opportunity for us to come together as a community to support their efforts and recognize the positive impact they have on our neighbors. It’s an easy, fun and a meaningful way for us to show our local pride and give back, and make a really big impact in the process.”
