ECONOMICS OF EDUCATION IN THE UPPER CUMBERLAND
WCTE recently convened a panel of experts and produced an hour-long program entitled Economics of Education in the Upper Cumberland. The experts included Dr. Kathleen Airhart, Deputy Commissioner of Education for the State of Tennessee; Dr. Susan Elkins, TTU Vice-President for Extended Programs and Regional Development; and Lillian Hartgrove, Vice-President of Economic Development at the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce.
The panel discussed the causes of high dropout rates, the State of Tennessee’s changing academic standards and the effects of these issues on our regional economy. Edited versions of this program will be broadcast as public service announcements and information regarding education resources will be provided. The show premieres at 7 pm on February 20, 2012, repeating at 9 pm on February 23 and 5 pm on February 26.
