Ralph Welch, Jr., Director of Engineering and Technology for WCTE-Upper Cumberland PBS, began his career in 1983 as a Production Engineer for WCTE. Since then, he has worked as a freelancer for all of the major networks, several universities, the Tennessee Titans, the Nashville Predators, the Nashville Cats, entertainment productions, commercials, infomercials, networks series and numerous other studio and remote productions.

Since 2009, when Mr. Welch came back to WCTE as interim chief engineer, he has helped lead the WCTE crew through several technically challenging productions, including “Bluegrass Underground,” which was shot 333 feet underground, and working with NASA and TTU to broadcast student questions to astronauts a few miles above the earth in “Live from the Space Station.”
