You can cheer on Bluegrass Underground at the 28th Midsouth Regional Emmy© Awards, presented live on WCTE, Saturday at 8pm on Channel 10 Charter and Channel 22 Dish & Direct.

Last year, Bluegrass Underground won a Regional Emmy® for excellence in Lighting design and execution. This Saturday at the 28th Midsouth Regional Emmy© Awards, the show is up for six Regional Emmy® Awards -- Best Entertainment, Director, Lighting,Audio, Photography and Technical Achievement.

The PBS “musical adventure series,” shot 333 feet underground in the Volcano room of the Cumberland Caverns, began when producers Todd Mayo and Cookeville’s own Todd Jarrell approached Becky Magura at WCTE to collaborate on the show. WCTE shot the pilot episode and presented it to PBS to consider for national broadcast. PBS picked it up and in its first year, the concert series aired over 7,000 times in 76 percent of the country from NYC, LA and Boston to Juno, Alaska and the Virgin Islands.

“We couldn’t be prouder to continue our award-winning relationship with the talented people at WCTE,” commented Todd Jarrell. “The show is a perfect marriage of the two things for which Tennessee can be most proud – its amazing natural beauty and its deep and profound musical heritage. WCTE’s involvement with Bluegrass Underground underlies the station’s commitment to both preserve and showcase the culture of the Upper Cumberland."

The Regional Emmy® award winning show airs on Monday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday nights at 9:30 p.m. To purchase tickets to the shows and attend tapings, go to bluegrassunderground.com.
