Three soul-searching young adults embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey in ROADTRIP NATION. Jackie, a 21-year-old Ph.D student, came to the U.S. from Mexico to study chemistry, and wants to see if she can balance school with life. Megan, a recent graduate from Bucknell University, struggles to hold on to her childhood dream of teaching in the face of a difficult job market. Zachariah, a bundle of energy with many different interests, looks to narrow his focus before he graduates from Ohio State University. Hopping aboard the iconic green RV, the adventurous team travels the country to interview influential leaders and learn about their passions and paths to success. Along the way, they glean powerful life lessons from charismatic interviewees, including Paul Salopek, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Mariette DiChristina, editor-in-chief of Scientific American Jad Abumrad, host and creator of the public radio show Radio Lab; Delfina Eberly, director of data operations at Facebook; food scientist Elise Benstein from the Jelly Belly Candy Company; and Vicki Smith, video game designer for Vicarious Visions (makers of Guitar Hero). The culmination of the Roadtrippers’ journey also coincides with a series milestone — its 100th episode — and includes a two-minute series retrospective.
Season 10 Episode 1: Joined by the common desire to get out of their comfort zones, a new team of Roadtrippers embarks on a cross-country journey to interview innovative Leaders who can provide insight on building a fulfilling life. Roadtripper Jackie has just earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry at the University of Texas, and left her home in Mexico to do so. With her family’s high hopes hinging on her success, she seeks to find a balance between her academic demands and outside interests. Recent-grad Megan has always wanted to become a teacher, but feels she must break out of her insulated surroundings to determine whether that dream is still right for her. Zachariah, an animated student at Ohio State, seeks to channel his many interests into one concrete path. After meeting each other (and their 36-foot home-on-wheels), the crew hits the beach to interview Dr. Graeme Rae, the Chief Scientist for Surfline.com, who discusses leaving the world of academia to help surfers score waves.
