THE SHOWMAN AND THE HERO
WCTE and the Cookeville Performing Arts Center are excited to host a screening of the documentary film THE SHOWMAN AND THE HERO on Saturday, February 8 at 7:00 p.m. The screening is a 'sneak peek' of the film before it airs on WCTE Upper Cumberland PBS.
Focusing on Jesse Lasky, the producer of the 1941 film Sergeant York (and one of Paramount Pictures' founding fathers), THE SHOWMAN AND THE HERO is about Lasky's experience with Sergeant Alvin C. York, the iconic World War I hero from Pall Mall, TN. The film was produced in part by Crossville filmmaker Dr. John White, in great collaboration with historian and Alvin C. York expert Dr. Michael Birdwell of Tennessee Tech University.
After the screening, a panel discussion will be led by Dr. Birdwell. This event is free and open to the public, but reservations are recommended. Make reservations by emailing CPAC Cultural Arts Coordinator Steve Gwilt (email@example.com) or by calling (931) 528-1313.
