TSSAA BLUECROSS BOWL
Since 2010, the Upper Cumberland’s WCTE-TV has brought you the TSSAA BlueCross Bowl Football Championships live from Cookeville. In 2009, WCTE-TV became the first station, public or commercial, to produce and televise statewide the Division II high school football championships. An active partner in the coalition that brought the TSSAA championships to Cookeville, and with production facilities ideally located under Tennessee Tech’s Tucker Stadium, WCTE broadcast the TSSAA football games to fans statewide through the other Tennessee PBS stations.
This year, PlayOn! Sports, the TSSAA’s producing partner, awarded the broadcast rights for the championships of football, basketball and other high school sports to a statewide network of commercial TV affiliates.
“We are proud of the Upper Cumberland teams that have made the playoffs in recent years and we wish we could continue to bring you these games,” commented Becky Magura, President and CEO of WCTE. “We’ve had requests to air local playoff games leading up to the championships and while we would love to do so, our hands are tied – we do not have the broadcast rights.”
The BlueCross Bowl Championship action will take place on the weekend of December 5th.
