WCTE Diversity Training
Mr. Morris Irby, a trustee of the Upper Cumberland Broadcast Council, will conduct a three-hour diversity training session on November 13, 2012. A recently-retired Senior HR Manager/Master Investigator for Cummins Filtration, Mr. Irby has extensive experience in diversity training. The session will include the following elements:
WCTE WELCOME AND OVERVIEW
- Welcome
- Kick-off exercise
- Training Objectives
- Ground Rules
INTRODUCTIONS
- Employees introduce themselves and describe what WCTE pays them to do
- Employees identify their learning goals and their specific plans to achieve them
DIFFERENTIATION EXERCISE
- Employees participate in a differentiation exercise to provoke thought toward diversity awareness
THE CHANGING WORKPLACE
- Employees discuss the workplace of the past
- Employees discuss the workplace of the future and the skills necessary for success
THE BUSINESS CONNECTION
- Employees learn the definition of diversity
- Employees participate in an exercise to illuminate both visible and invisible factors affecting diversity
- STAE Model is discussed
WORK AND MONEY MODEL
- Employees discuss how to achieve 100 % effort in their work for 100 % of their pay
- Employees learn about the pluses and minuses of diversity
BIASES, FILTERS AND ASSUMPTIONS
- Employees learn about cues, filters, behaviors, and stereotypes/assumptions in relation to diversity awareness.
CLOSING
- Mr. Irby will close the session and answer questions
