This week on WCTE’s Get Ready To Learn radio show, we invite you to join Cynthia Putman, show host and Ready To Learn Project Manager, as she sits down with her special guest Brenda Hughett, Putnam County School System Extended Learning Coordinator and four PCSS LEAPs students. They will share more about the 2018 Fall Break LEAPs Camp.

Along with Putman and Hughett are some student camp attendees who share why attending LEAPs makes a difference in their lives.

Gianna, Claire, Olivia, Juana, and Gaspar have all attended multiple camps and also attend the LEAPs after school program at their elementary and middle school. They are eager to share about these topics:

  • Why LEAPs Camp is so much fun

  • The awesome food and snacks prepared by PCSS Food Services

  • Homework help that makes a big difference

  • Cummins Falls and being outside in nature

  • Playing soccer, tennis, and basketball

  • Getting to go to the movies

  • Taking a tour of their hometown museum, depot, and ice-cream shop

  • Creating clay bowls for Cooking On The Square

  • Working in the Jere Whitson community garden

  • Doing STEM projects, like making a hovercraft

  • Improving reading, writing, and math skills

  • PBS KIDS on-line and on-air

  • Odd Squad, The Cat In The Hat, Ruff Ruffman Sensational Science Camp materials

  • Getting to be on the radio

  • Making new friends

  • Making great memories

Putman and Hughett both agree that working with the PCSS students at summer and fall camp is a rewarding experience. The partnership between WCTE and the Putnam County School Extended Learning Program is a win-win for both organizaitons.

The fall campers were excited when Hughett shared that the three Putnam County High schools were also servicing students over the fall break with credit recovery, ACT prep, and skills for academic success.
