February 26, 2024 Cookeville, Tenn - During the month of March, WCTE PBS is providing two free screenings of the PBS Independent Lens film, Matter of Mind: My Parkinson’s. From award-winning co-directors Anna Moot-Levin and Laura Green, the intimate documentary follows three individuals- a political cartoonist, a mother turned boxing coach, and an optician- as they navigate their lives with resourcefulness and determination in the face of Parkinson’s disease.
Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disease that affects 10 million people worldwide. A wide range of symptoms are associated with Parkinson’s, including tremors, muscle rigidity, slowness of movement, and balance problems, in addition to some non-motor symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and other cognitive impairments “Our goal with both of these screenings is to help educate the public about Parkinson’s disease and its impact on individuals, caregivers, families, and communities. Through our partnerships with the Cumberland County Playhouse and the Cookeville Senior Activity Center, we hope to shine a light on some of the support systems that are available for people who have Parkinson’s,” says Sarah Savage, the coordinator of WCTE’s Indie Lens screenings.
The first screening will be held at 11:00 am on March 14 at the Cumberland County Playhouse (221 Tennessee Ave. Crossville, TN 38555). The second screening will be held at 12:00 pm on March 27 at the Cookeville Senior Activity Center (186 S Walnut Ave. Cookeville, TN 38501). Each of these events is free and open to the public.
