WCTE PBS is kicking off its Indie Lens Pop Up season featuring “Jonathan Scott’s Power Trip.” Due to COVID-19, the screening will be held virtually instead of in person. We will miss the in-person audience this year, however, we hope that everyone will join us virtually and choose to organize ‘Watch Parties.’ Indie Lens Pop Up strives to bring viewers topics about what matters most, from newsworthy topics and social issues, to family and community relationships. Indie Lens Pop-Up, presented by ITVS, Independent Lens, and WCTE PBS will feature Property Brothers co-host and home-renovation expert, Jonathan Scott, on his mission to flip the switch on how Americans access power. On the surface, solar energy seems like a resource that is widely available; however, as Scott begins his journey across the country, he quickly finds how little choice the public has in how they source their energy.
After the screening, WCTE PBS’s Director of Education & Engagement, Dr. Cephas Ablakwa, will moderate the virtual panel featuring special guests to discuss themes in the documentary, renewable energies along with answering questions. Themes in the documentary include: Issues of equity and environmental justice, the burden of fossil fuel pollution on people of color and low-income communities and the clean energy revolution in our communities. Indie Lens Pop-Up and WCTE PBS aim to spark enlightening conversations that shed light on these types of issue to help drive community conversations.
