Cookeville, Tenn.– WCTE PBS will broadcast and stream the 55th Anniversary of the Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble starting at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 29.

Winston Morris, recently retired Professor of Music and Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium at Tennessee Tech, where he has been on the faculty since 1967, has been internationally recognized for the past five decades as one of the leaders in the advancement of the tuba. He is a. Morris is regarded as the leading authority on the literature for the tuba and was one of the founding fathers of the Tubists Universal Brotherhood Association (T.U.B.A.).

“WCTE was there and captured the entire "Live at 55" program," Morris said. ”This is a very special production that will include not only the performance but also introductions to all of the composers and their original pieces that were written for this concert.

"I would really like to thank WCTE for everything they do to help support and promote newsworthy events like this from Tennessee Tech and the Cookeville community," Morris said. "I remember when WCTE was a two-person operation that relied on the help of students, one of whom was (former CEO) Becky Magura, who went on to do so much with the station. Thanks to the support of our community, WCTE is now fully grown, but the station still needs your support to continue to bring you great local programming like this."

Celebrating more than 55 years in existence, the award-winning Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble is one of the most, if not the most, successful performing collegiate ensembles in history, and is documented as the most recorded ensemble of its kind in the world.

WCTE has served the Upper Cumberland for 40+ years as the region’s premier storyteller, and is the only television station in a 75-mile radius of Cookeville, TN.  WCTE is a proud strategic partner with educators, health services, government, arts and music organizations across the Upper Cumberland.
